Welcome to NZCPA

The New Zealand Centre for Precision Agriculture (NZCPA) is dedicated to creating practical land management solutions through the use of precision technology tools. The organisation encompasses an array of experts in leading edge agriculture, horticulture, and resource management technologies.

We specialize in providing research for commercial and governmental agencies to develop integrated site-specific solutions to enhance the economic and environmental performance of land use systems. To-date the NZCPA has undertaken commercial research contracts in a variety of fields, including:

  • Cropping regimes
  • Vineyard production
  • Forest development
  • Drainage of agricultural land
  • Dairy conversions
  • Animal tracking (cattle and wildlife)
  • Wetland mapping
  • Farm mapping
  • Frost prevention machinery performance

The NZCPA is a unit within Massey University and benefits from immediate access to a large skill base in the wider precision resource management field. Operating within a university structure guarantees a strong research focus. In particular, postgraduate student research rigorously develops and assesses practical applications of precision resource management concepts.

NZCPA: Services

NZCPA Services

The NZCPA offers a range of commercial services, with an emphasis on applied research.

The Universitys Drainage Extension Service was an integral part of the Centre. However, that service was privatised in 2004. Two of our former staff Steven Greaves and Walter Craig purchased the drainage machinery and now offer a full drainage installation service under the name Deep End Drainage. Contact deependdrainage@xtra.co.nz

Warren Woodgyer now runs a GPS surveying and EM surveying service called DIGIMAP LTD. If you require an EM survey and map interpretation please contact Warren on 021 730 149 (mob) or (06) 353 5091 (bus). However, where EM surveys are linked to further research projects these can be completed by Centre staff.

Our present services include:
  • Topographic and soil electrical conductivity surveying
  • RTKGPS hire
  • Satellite image processing
  • Animal tracking
  • GIS and Remote sensing
  • Development of Precision Agriculture Technologies
  • Natural Resource Management and Ecological Economics
